15 Tips to Thrive
In Life and Business
Right NOW
Brought to YOU by DannySentMe
The quote, "I didn't come this far, just to come this far," seems to be going around a lot right now. Now is the time for you to continue to crush it in life and business. There's plenty of reasons why not to, however there are so many more meaningful reasons as to why you should. If you're 12 years old or older, you've experienced an economic downturn. You've also experienced economic upturns as well. The sun will come up tomorrow, so that makes not only tomorrow, but also today the best day to continue down that path!
For so many of us in the US and across the globe, things changed a bit this week. Didn't it? Our new normal means working remotely, managing our family as if it were summer a few months earlier, and being smarter about how we are as consumers. Like storms that come in overnight and are gone in the morning, you too will weather this storm.
My advice? Well, I've actually got about 15 bits of advice below. These are some of the things that I do and use and wanted to share with you as "Foodback," a phrase I coined this week while stumbling amidst my words while trying to say "food-for-thought" and "feedback" at the same time.
Whether you choose to discuss with me or someone else, I hope that this is helpful to you as you consider how to continue to thrive in life and business right now.
#1 Help Yourself First - What is one of the first safety messages you hear when you board a flight? After securing your seatbelt, it’s in unlikely emergency - put on your own oxygen mask first. You’ve got to get yourself right before you can help others get themselves right. Now is the time for you to be in the right mindset mentally and physically. It doesn’t happen overnight, but you can work toward each of these areas every day. I’ll talk about another way of looking at this that I personally do here in a moment. Check out this perspective here.
#2 Serve - Anytime I’m feeling down or gloomy, one selfish thing that changes everything for me is when I can serve someone else. Don’t wait for the invitation, make it happen. Especially now! Who in your community can you lend a hand, a can of soup, or a conversation to? It doesn’t need to be elaborate or extreme. It’s the simple things in life. Serve someone and see how you feel. Still wondering where you can go to make a difference? The Utah Food Bank is ready, willing and able to accept your willingness to serve.
#3 Capture Customer Data - Did you know or realize that Data is more valuable than OIL? Look at your inbox - Chic-fil-a, Delta, Ken Garff Chev, Chase Bank, America First Credit Union, IHC, My Doctor’s office and many, many more are emailing me. But think about those businesses who I engage with frequently that are not emailing me for a moment. Why not? Probably because they don’t have my data, or they don’t have a system in place for an automated messaging. Now think about this for your business. What does that look like for you? Do you have a simple and easy way to capture data from prospective and active customers? I’m talking about your own valuable data - customer name, address and phone numbers that you can market to and provide amazing products and services for. An easy way I do this is with what I call a digital business card. I’ve got plenty of samples, but a great place to start to learn more is to check this out for a FREE 14 Day Trial.
#4 Lean Into It and Adapt - You may have worked in an office most of this week. You may be working from home now. Don’t fight it. Look at what this just did! Did it shave 10 - 60 minutes off of your commute? School is out, that’s another 60 minutes you don’t need to prep getting lunches and carpools ready. For many of us, that could be an additional 1 - 4 hours we’ve just got put back into our day. Use this unique time wisely! There’s a great Netflix called, The Call to Courage, its a video speech by Brene Brown, author of Dare to Lead. Watch this tonight. You’ll be glad you did.
#5 Focus On What You Can Control - I saw on the news a short interview with a psychotherapist. She commented on why the stockpiling of bottled water and toilet paper. She said that having a stockpile helps one feel in control of what’s going on. While no-one of us can control what’s going on, we can control our actions and how we respond. What are the things that are within your control that you can focus on? Calling a current customer? Making an outbound outreach to a prospective client in your top 20 list of perfect client’s you’d love to work with. Do one of those things you’ve been putting off, yet needs to be done that you can do or have influence over. Outside of that, it’s not worth the stress and worry. Focus on what you can control.
#6 Online Meetings - Conferences are cancelled. Trade Shows are cancelled. What are you going to do? It’s time to leverage what many of us have been doing for years - online meeting via phone and screen share. Otherwise known as webinars - an online seminar. Many may be familiar with this while others may not feel to be as tech savvy and feel there is a technology gap they now have to struggle with. Don’t fight it. Anyone can do it and you’ll get just as comfortable as seeing others do Facebook live videos. What resources are out there? GoToMeeting, Zoom, Join.Me, etc. If you need help figuring this stuff out, let’s chat.
#7 Online Learning - There is SO much content out there right now just waiting for consumption. I can’t consume fast enough! I listen to podcasts and watch YouTube videos at 1.5x to 2x the speed. I’m able to down a ton of content every day in a meaningful way. Go at your pace, that’s the best thing about it! I received my bachelors at the University of Utah attending classes on campus as this whole online learning thing wasn’t exactly a thing just yet in the early 2000s. However, I received my masters degree from Ashford University 100% online in 2010. Online was amazing because I worked with classmates all over the US and I never had to leave my house. Also, what types of online training and learning can you provide to your customers? I use a FREE google chrome plug-in called, Vidyard, that allows me to easily do this and build out a micro-learning library of videos that my clients frequently ask. They love it! And, I love it when I get a notification that someone has watched my video! This is also a great tool for prospecting as well, a tactic called, video prospecting. It’s fun and it works! Message me if you'd like to see how I'm using it.
#8 Offline Learning - You know what they say - Leaders are Readers! For me, it’s the books I read. In fact, wasn’t it Napoleon Hill that said, “The only things that change in five years are the people we meet and books we read.” It’s also been said that CEOs read around 60 books per year! Good on them! For the rest of us, what does your current reading regimen look like? What’s the last book that you read? Me? It was Above the Line by Urban Meyer. So, so good!! I’ve commented many times while reading it that I kinda wished I could have dipped the entire book in highlighter because almost every page was $$$! Now I’m curious, what are you doing for offline learning to stay cutting edge in your industry?
#9 Get Reviews - with everyone now at home and access to the internet, they’re no doubt going to be looking for things they want online. It’s been said that up to 15% of your online rankings have to do with your Google Reviews! Now is the time to continue getting Google Reviews. And if you haven’t started, get a system in place to get them from your REAL and HAPPY customers. More and more of us will be discretionary with our funds, have more time to carry out our buying journey online, and will be more hypersensitive to review ratings on all platforms. However, unless you’re exclusively selling through Amazon, most of us are more likely to be on Google, that’s one area you should consider if you’re not already. If you want to experience what a system like this looks like, DM me and I’ll gladly show you what I use that helps me differentiate and get solid reviews.
#10 Live by the G CODE - Gratitude, Genetics, Grind, Group: All together, it’s the Greatness Code. A big personal goal for my 2020 is to live with more Gratitude. Little did I know that would also unlock the rest of the GCODE. Genetics - I’ve got a lot of work to do there. Grind - I’m an excellent and hard worker, always making connections, introductions, and thrive in working with others giving tools, training and resources so they can be successful in their role. Every day, what are you doing to improve your life in these key areas? Might I invite you to start today and you can do all of this from your phone. I do! In fact, I’ve been doing it since the beginning of the year and try to do so every day. I’ve got plenty of “ME” to work on, this helps me get better at being the best ME I can so that I can show up the best I can to those around me. Listening to podcasts like, The Happiness Lab, there is actual proven science around all this, especially around Gratitude. For more information check this out to sign up for FREE and be sure to DM me for the invite code.
#11 Get Outside - Take a get some fresh air and simply take a breath. There’s plenty to do and if you’ve got kids, you’re going to want to get outside ASAP before cabin fever sets in. Go ride a bike, take a walk, play some disc golf, catch with a kid or do a ton of other fun things. Enjoy some vitamin D. Maintain your health. Do what you can to boost your immune system to be as healthy as you can. Are you taking supplements? Most doctors and in fact, even more nurses recommend them. Just make sure that the ones you consume are of the highest quality produced by the highest standards. You’ve seen the news where many have been recalled in recent months. If you are interested in knowing if your supplements are doing more than simply making you "feel" better, but want real, measured scientific results, I encourage you to locate someone who can discuss with you how to gain access to your health score that measures things like carotenoid and antioxidant levels in your body with a simple scan that only takes about 30 seconds.
#12 Watch the Croods Movie - Our family loves the humor and story in this movie. There is fear for so much unknown that these cavemen and cavewomen experience in a new world that they are embarking on and trying to figure out. Rather than fighting against and fearing everything, they learn to embrace it. Watch it. You’ll be glad you did. Then, continue to be a leader. Whether you lead from the front, the middle or the back, you can be a leader in your own right. We need amazing leaders right now. Your friends need you. Your family needs you. Your coworkers need you. Your vendors need you. Your community needs you. You need you. Take the lead.
#13 Double Down on Ads and Training - During trying times, some of the first things that companies stop doing and figure they’re going to take in house is Advertising and Training. Before you do cut back, think about why you moved forward on either of those in the first place. It was to improve your brand, get more business exposure, and to ensure your employees were showing up the best that they could for you and your business every day. Right? Before you cut back, think about why you hired who ever you hired to do advertising and training - you did so because those individuals or companies had a skill set in ads or marketing or training that you simply did not, correct? You did so because your skill set is being the expert in your business. Correct? Exactly! Leverage your strengths and double down on them. Leverage your weaknesses by leaning on others who have strength in them. Together, you’ll continue to win! One way that businesses are keeping top-of-mind with their clients is through newsletters. Remember that whole capture data section above? This is yet another reason why it's valuable. And besides, while some businesses may cut back, that simply paves the way for you to go farther and dominate your competition because there is now a bit less competition. If you're looking for additional training ideas, sales training will aid every employee at every level in every business. To me, everything is selling and when done right, it's a win-win situation all around. You can learn in five minutes what it took me years of traveling and training throughout the US and Canada to learn.
#14 Put Your Best Foot Forward - I like to look at every day as an education and every business engagement as a job interview. If you have the right mindset, there are lessons to be learned every day. If you have the right attitude and work ethic, you’ll be invited back to work the next day typically. Now is the time to continue on and make it happen. If part of making that happen means looking for new employment, I invite you to download my 18 Job Interview Tips and 18 Job Interview Questions that you can ask a prospective employer to ensure you’re showing up in a professional way on your journey to land that next opportunity. Years ago, as a lower level employee dishwasher for a bakery, I came to know that from the bottom to the top, every job is important when it comes to providing superior products and services to clients that earn repeat business. Don’t wing it or leave it to chance.
#15 Take Action - Last but not least - take action! Don’t get stuck. Focus on one thing if you have to. A friend of mine refers to what we can all get all too often - shiny object syndrome. We have such long lists of the things we need to do and want to accomplish. With so many good options out there, it can be tough to know which ones will be the highest value targets we can take action on that will provide the best ROI for our time and effort. My advice? Just start! Focus on one thing that you can do right now, one thing you can do today, one thing you can do this week that will help you progress forward. What is that one thing in your life and business that you can do? If you want a great story about taking action amidst chaos, check out this true story here. Have you ever been in a situation like that?
